Skin to Win
Lung–burning fun for all at the Mammoth Caldera Burn – a ski mountaineering challenge. Starting from Canyon Lodge, participants will skin their way through multiple ascents on Mammoth Mountain to complete this battle against themselves and the terrain. Ski mountaineering (ski mo), a high-altitude up and down challenge imported from Europe, is rapidly becoming one of the hottest new winter sports in North America. The Recreational course is perfect for backcountry skiers of any skill level interested in learning new aspect of the sport. The Elite course is designed to showcase Mammoth's steep, technical skiing.
EVENT Registration
Event registration includes race entry, uphill access and a post-event beer for racers 21+. Online registration is closed. On-site registration closes at 7PM on Friday, April 7. There will not be on-site registration the morning of the race.

Is splitboarding allowed?
Yes, however participants are required to adhere to the designated mode of travel; for example booting where skinning is designated would not be allowed. Splitboarders are welcome to ski down with their board split in ski-mode if equipped with heel locking.
Are snowshoes or Nordic skis permitted?
No
Are crampons allowed?
Steps will be kicked for the boot pack sections, and crampons will not be necessary. However, competitors are welcome to use crampons at their own discretion.
Does the course have aid stations?
No. Please be prepared with the appropriate water and snacks.
What equipment is required?
Recreational and Elite Classes
- Alpine Touring or Telemark skis or a splitboard capable of skiing/riding technical alpine terrain in firm conditions.
- A pair of climbing skins
- A helmet certified for rock climbing or skiing
- An avalanche rescue shovel
- An avalanche probe
- An avalanche transceiver
- In the event of inclement weather: buff or balaclava and a wind jacket
Additional Items for Elite ONLY
- A backpack capable of carrying skis
- Food and water sufficient to sustain you over 5,200 feet of elevation gain and loss
