Earn Your Way Up
Take on the challenge of Dragon’s Back with the melin team and earn your way to an unforgettable sunset at 11,053'. This 3-mile hike climbs 2,400 vertical feet through rugged mountain terrain to the top of the mountain, just in time for the Summit Sunset Party. Celebrate your ascent with sweeping Sierra views, live music, and a sunset over the Minarets before riding the Panorama Gondola back down.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required. The hike is free to participate and grants entry to the Summit Sunset Party. Hiking to the Summit Sunset Party is not permitted outside of the registered participants for this special partner experience.
Dragon’s Back is a difficult, high-altitude hike with technical terrain. Please review the following information and come prepared for the conditions.
- Distance & elevation: The hike is 3 miles with approximately 2,400 feet of vertical gain.
- Difficulty: This is a difficult hike on technical terrain at high altitude. Proper preparation and caution are advised.
- Timing: Participants should be able to complete the ascent within 2.5 hours to ensure access to the gondola for the ride down.
- Who should participate: This hike is not recommended for children or individuals with pre-existing medical conditions.
- Hike at your own pace: A lead and sweep will accompany the group. If you choose to abandon the ascent, the hike back down is at your own risk.
- What to bring: Wear appropriate hiking footwear and bring plenty of water and snacks. Temperatures at the summit can be significantly colder, so layers are recommended.
- melin hat: melin will provide a hat to all participants.
- No aid provided: There will be no aid stations or on-course support.

| 2:40 PM | Meet in The Village to receive your wristband and sign in*, then take the Trolley to Lakes Basin. |
| 3:30 PM | Get off the Trolley and begin hiking. |
| 6:00 PM | Finish hiking and arrive at the Summit Sunset Party. |
| 8:00 PM | Last Gondola goes back to Main Lodge. |
*All hikers must sign a liability waiver to participate.
Transportation
The town trolley Orange Line runs every 30-minutes and will transport participants from The Village Plaza, located on Canyon Blvd, to Trolley Stop #92, Twin Lakes trailhead. Once on the summit, free gondola rides will take participants down to Main Lodge where the Town bus/trolly will transport hikers back to Village Plaza.
