Glider Programs

Youth Training Programs

The Tamarack Gliders continues its tradition to provide a fun way to encourage children from 5-14 to enjoy the sport of cross-country skiing. Through games and creative activities, children learn skiing skills as they explore trails in the winter wonderland of the Lakes Basin. Treasure hunts, obstacle courses, games of tag and tree skiing are the means by which our qualified Tamarack instructors coach the Gliders.

What to Wear/Bring

The clothing worn for cross-country skiing is different than for alpine skiing. Cross-country skiing is an aerobic sport and it is possible to become quite warm while exercising on snow. Multiple-layered clothing is preferable to a single heavy snowsuit. Recommended clothing includes:

  • Fleece jackets, nylon windbreakers and pants.
  • Wicking-type long underwear.
  • Hats, mittens or warm gloves and sunglasses or goggles are a must.
  • Don't forget sunscreen!

Weather Conditions

Cross-country skiing is fun in all kinds of weather, but a session may get cancelled in a severe storm – please call for notice of cancellation.
