Week-Long Sleep Away Camps

Week-Long Sleep Away Camps

Our Sleep Away Camps begin on Sundays and pack a schedule full of fun until pickup on Friday. All Sleep Away Camps stay at Camp High Sierra and use the historic recreational lodge and campground as their basecamp as they embark on adventures in the Eastern Sierra.

SLEEP AWAY CAMP DATES

During the week, all campers have fun with traditional camp games and team building activities, and have opportunities to bike, ride horses, climb, paddle board, swim, hike, play at the Adventure Center, and ride the Scenic Gondola to the Eleven53 Interpretive Center.

At night, campers stay in our canvas tent cabins at Camp High Sierra and get to cook around campfires, stargaze, night hike, play games, and roast s'mores, all while hanging out and building awesome friendships that will last a lifetime.

Adventure Camp

For campers who want a bit of everything, our Adventure Camp offers it all. Beginners and experienced athletes alike will enjoy a full range of camp and mountain activities in the majestic Eastern Sierra.

Mountain Bike Camp

With a focus on big fun, all skill levels will boost their mountain biking chops – we've even taught many campers how to ride bikes. Campers will bike every day, learning to ride, and rip, the premier mountain bike park in the country with friends and trained counselors.

Groups are assigned based on skill level, where everyone has a chance to master the right skills at the right pace, while maximizing fun.

Horseback Camp

Explore the Eastern Sierra the same way settlers did – on horseback. Learn to ride or improve the skills you already have. Campers will take a horsemanship course at one of our local pack outfitters, and will put their knowledge into action on several iconic trail rides in the area.

Campers will spend most of their active time at the pack station or on the trail with new friends, counselors, and trained wranglers.

Weekend Blast

Weekend Blast

The perfect intro to our full Week-Long Sleep Away Camps, our Weekend Blast is a Friday–Sunday overnight camp. Offering the same type of fun as the longer camps, we jam-pack the weekend with games, activities and adventures for campers who want to test the waters of an overnight camp or simply don't have the time for a longer stay.

The Weekend Blast Camp accepts younger campers looking to start their camp careers before they're ready for a full week.

  • Mountain Biking
  • Horseback Riding
  • Rock Climbing
  • Fishing
  • Hiking
  • Water Sports

Mountain Biking

Our world-class lift-served bike park provides just the right amount of challenge, and all gear is included, from full-faced helmets, knee pads, gloves and top-of-the-line bikes from Trek. Whether mastering the terrain in our industry-leading Discovery Zone for beginner riders or challenging themselves on bigger trails and features, campers will find just the right balance of fun and skill-based learning from our seasoned instructors.

Mountain Horseback Adventure

After receiving expert riding instruction from professional cowboys, campers hit the trail for a true horseback adventure through the mountains with their guides.

Rock Climbing

Whether ascending the artificial climbing wall at the Adventure Center or climbing at one of the favorite local areas, campers will learn the rock climbing basics, including rope techniques with the safety of top rope routes and an experienced belayer to prevent falling. They will be challenged to push themselves beyond their perceived limits in a safe, fun, supportive teaching environment. The exhilaration of getting to the top of the wall is often a highlight of a camper's week.

Via Ferrata

Campers challenge themselves on our newest adventure – the Via Ferrata. This network of climbing routes on the rugged cliffs of Mammoth Mountain includes steel cables, iron rungs, and a suspended bridge that are all fixed to the rock to assist climbers upwards as well as securely attach them to the rock for safety. With 6 different climbing routes that progress in difficulty, Via Ferrata is the perfect alpine activity for our campers.

Fishing

Campers cast their lines into the crystal clear waters of the Mammoth Lakes Basin and learn how to fish in some of the best fishing holes in the country.

Hiking

Mammoth Lakes is home to hundreds of miles of stunning side and backcountry trails. Whether on bikes or on foot, Mammoth adventure campers will find themselves out on the trail daily.

Paddle Boarding or Kayaking

Campers have the opportunity to paddle board or kayak on the crystal clear waters of Lake Mary at Pokonobe Lodge.

Swimming

Nothing beats swimming in mountain lakes and streams, and Mammoth campers have multiple opportunities during the week to cool off and play at our favorite mountain swimming holes.

Zip Line, Climbing Wall, Ropes Course & Bungee Trampoline

Campers take the ride of their lives on our 306-foot long zip line, then come in for a soft landing as they sail nearly 25 feet in the air on this safe and exhilarating apparatus. Our multi-station bungee trampoline is also a big hit with campers, safely allowing kids of all ages to bounce nearly 25 feet in the air to flip and perform gravity defying stunts.

All activities are weather and conditions permitting. Heavy snow years may impact access to sightseeing and camping locations.
