MINI SHREDDERS
This team is for young riders who are working to develop the FUNdamentals of snowboarding. Their training includes disciplines in halfpipe, slopestyle, boardercross, slalom, giant slalom and rails. Approximately 50% of training is spent freeriding around the mountain looking for powder, trees and steeps, and riding the groomed runs. Freeriding is important for attaining the mileage necessary to practice and refine the skills the coaches have taught. There is no pressure to compete, but this group will be trained so they can compete in Mammoth’s Unbound USASA Series in all disciplines.
Ability
Mini Shredders should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Broadway Express (CH 1) down Broadway (Slightly More Difficult/Blue Runs) with a solid basic stance without stopping. All riders must meet the minimum riding ability of the Team and display independence such as being able to buckle their own bindings and meet at spots on runs designated by their coach. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.
Schedule
Season runs from November through April. Spring Camps are available to all athletes in this program through May and June (conditions permitting) at no extra cost. Mini Shredder athletes are required to attend 50% of scheduled training opportunities.
