Meet Mammoth's Olympians

Halfpipe snowboarders Chloe Kim, Maddie Mastro, Shaun White and Kelly Clark; and alpine skier Stacey Cook made their way halfway around the world to PyeongChang to compete in the 2018 Winter Games representing both USA and Mammoth Mountain.

The men’s and women’s snowboard competition could best be described as NEXT LEVEL. Maddie Mastro made the world remember her name when she went huge in the pipe in her first ever games. The legend, Kelly Clark, competed in her FIFTH games and reminded us all of why she is the best there ever is. Ultimately, Shaun White and Chloe Kim pulled out all the stops with some of the biggest and best competition runs we’ve ever seen to bring home the USA GOLD.

Congratulations Shaun & Chloe, and to all our local heroes – you make us proud.

Kelly Clark

Women’s Snowboard Halfpipe

The veteran queen of the pipe.

No stranger to the rings, PyeongChang marks Kelly’s fifth Olympic feat, bringing home a gold (2002) and two bronze (2010, 2014) medals previously. Kelly Clark secured her spot on the U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team for women’s halfpipe right on her home turf in Mammoth at the U.S. Freeski & Snowboard Grand Prix on Jan 20. Laying down an impressive second run, Kelly clenched the number one spot on the podium locking in her ticket to Korea. Kelly, who boasts and impressive 70+ wins in her snowboard career grew up in southern Vermont, but relocated to Mammoth Lakes as an adult to train and progress her riding. In addition to her remarkable snowboarding accomplishments, Kelly is a vibrant member of the community operating her own non-profit, The Kelly Clark Foundation. Established in 2010, the Kelly Clark Foundation was created to “provide youth with the resources and opportunities they need to achieve their highest potential through snowboarding”. In 2017 Kelly penned her first book aptly titled, Inspired.

A force to be reckoned with.

One to watch in Korea. Maddie’s impressive style and control both in and out of the halfpipe is mesmerizing. On the heels of fellow lady–riders, Kelly and Chloe, Maddie is unstoppable. Maddie Mastro put herself on the map with authority in 2016, transitioning from Rev Tour success straight to the finals of elite contests around the world including podiums finishes in Mammoth, Park City, and Cardrona, NZ. Maddie has been part of not one, not two, but three monumental American podium sweeps at U.S. Grand Prix events.

Eyes on the prize.

A force to be reckoned with in the pipe with a bag full of tricks and an impressive competition record to match. In 2014 Chloe qualified for the Olympics in Sochi, but was too young to compete – she was 14. Fast forward to 2018 Chloe is now a three-time XGames gold medalist, the youngest in history. She is the first American woman to win the Youth Olympics Games, and was part of a momentous American podium sweep –on her home turf –during the Mammoth U.S. Grand Prix…twice. To top things off, Chloe became the first female to land back-to-back 1080's in the pipe, earning her a perfect score of 100.
