A Letter From Our President/COO
Dear Mammoth Guest,
I want to start this letter by extending a huge “thank you” to our Mammoth family – for your continued compassion, understanding and flexibility during these unchartered times. It is with the utmost empathy that we recognize that the hurt and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic extends far beyond our business, and hope that you and your loved ones are staying healthy and happy.
Currently, Mammoth Mountain and Mammoth Lakes are experiencing a very busy summer and we have adjusted all of our businesses to help protect the health and wellness of our guests and employees. For those of you that have visited this summer, I thank you for your care and commitment to Mammoth by wearing masks, respecting social distancing protocols, and adjusting safely to these ever-changing times. As we inch closer to the 20/21 winter season, safety will continue to be our number one priority. Many unknowns still exist, but I want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to get us back on the mountain come November 14, 2020. We recognize that we only “rent” this place from Mother Nature, which inevitably comes with its challenges, but as always, the health and well-being of our community, guests and employees is always paramount.
Following the legacy set by our founder Dave McCoy, we all have the opportunity to become the best version of ourselves in our mountain “home". The memories made at Mammoth in the last 65+ years will last for generations to come, and it is our intention to continue these traditions this winter.
As we continue to embrace and adjust to living in “the vague” on a daily basis, it is challenging to understand what the landscape will look like for this coming winter. We are working closely with our local leaders to address all pertinent aspects of community safety. We know that the simplest actions do the most to protect the environment where we live, work, and play, and are relying on our Mammoth Family to continue to help us stay open by wearing a mask and following “wash, cover, and distance” guidelines.
From the bottom of our Mammoth hearts, I want to let you know how much we appreciate you, and how much your support means to every one of us as we continue to create the environment that delivers the unique Mammoth experiences that we have all come to love.
President and Chief Operating Officer
It's No Fun Without You
We miss seeing you in Mammoth. Since we suspended operations on March 15, we have received almost 10 feet of snow, and although we aren’t skiing and riding it now, we are grateful for the water for our many lakes and streams come summer. For information and updates on changes to policies and procedures, please visit our COVID-19 resource page.
Thank You, Dave McCoy
Mammoth Mountain's founder Dave McCoy was a true pioneer in the ski industry, and while he built one of the most successful resorts in the country, he was always most focused on having fun and bringing skiing to the people. Dave's life and legacy is one to be grateful for and to celebrate in the best way we know how – by going skiing together.
To Dave McCoy, we thank you. For everything.
Hot Laps Episode 1
Hot Laps Episode 1 features some of the heaviest clips we've seen in a while. A "Janet Jackson" on an 84-foot down rail? Yep. Finger flip pop-shuvit on a lift tower? Uh-huh. Prepare to have your mind blown then watch it again... and again.
"Fire on The Mountain" – Mammoth's Night Segment
Check out our night segment from Chris Benchetler's new film "Fire on the Mountain" where Chris, Danny Davis, Kimmy Fasani, Michelle Parker, and more shred under the light of the moon to transcendent music by the Grateful Dead. This one-of-a-kind film was shot in the Hemlocks in the middle of the night after one of our biggest storms last season. It's a mind-bending escape under the stars that will leave you wanting more.

The Science Behind Mammoth's Snowfall
Standing tall at 11,053 feet, Mammoth Mountain is legendary for massive snowfall and one of the longest ski seasons in the country. This was no secret to our founder, Dave McCoy, who knew this from studying the landscape and weather patterns of the Eastern Sierra as a City of Los Angeles hydrographer.
In this short film, a NASA scientist, a weathercaster, a long-time Mammoth Mountain ski patroller and a professor of snow hydrology talk through the science of how California’s big mountain home continually tops the snowfall charts.
The 19/20 season is underway and we had one helluva party to kick it off. From the first chair banner breakthrough to the beer toast on the sundeck, and Mammoth Beanie drops to selfies with Woolly, the winter stoke was next level. If you missed it in person, check out the recap of the season opener on Nov 9.
New Summit Sign
For over 20 years, the original summit sign served as a Mammoth landmark and favorite selfie spot for Scenic Gondola Riders, shredders, hikers and families alike. Standing tall at 19’, the sign endured significant damage due to the extreme elements up at 11,053’ elevation. On Oct 16, the iconic sign was replaced with an even bigger 24’ version that mimics the original, allowing Mammoth lovers to capture their mountain memories for several more decades to come. Watch the action at the summit as the new sign went up.
Falling for You
Autumn days definitely deliver in the romance department. From short road trips in search of golden aspen groves, to hand-in-hand hikes around glass-like lakes, and sharing the excitement of the first snow, this season will make you fall deeper for the Sierra scenery. Watch a couple of leaf peepers enjoy a dreamy day in the mountains.
Radical Riders Crush it in the Bike Park
With 80+ miles of singletrack covering some of the most radical terrain in the country, Mammoth is the premier lift-served bike park in the U.S. It’s also perfect for families and beginners who can cruise the trails in the Discovery Zone – an area dedicated to making progression easy. Start there, and you’ll be riding like these guys in no time. Watch Red Bull riders Payson McElveen and Aaron Gwin, plus a few local riders, show how to hit maximum funocity on some of our gnarliest trails.
That's a Wrap on the 18/19 Winter Season
What a season! After 261 days of snowy fun, our long, amazing, record-breaking winter season came to a close on July 28. It tied for the 3rd longest season, and we experienced the snowiest May AND February in Mammoth’s recorded history. With a total of 718” of snow falling at the summit, the powder days seemed endless. Check out our recap of all the full sends, face shots, big grins and giggles this winter delivered.

Splashes & Crashes from Pond Skim 2019
Nothing screams spring fun more than the Annual Pond Skim event at Canyon Lodge. The craziest costumed skiers and riders lined up early on Easter morning in hopes of being one of the chosen 50 to straight-line it across the freezing 110-foot pond. Watch Woolly, the Easter Bunny, Supergirl, the 80s duo and more take their glory run. Some made it across, some definitely didn't.
