After 12-18" of new snow on Thurs and Fri, the mountain is refreshed and full of soft turns from top to bottom. The weekend is looking bluebird - get out there and get ripping! Strong winds are forecast for the afternoon, lifts may be on wind hold.
Last week was one for the books. The U.S. Freeski and Snowboard Grand Prix tour landed in Mammoth for its final stop. There was a lot to be excited about, as this was the last chance for halfpipe and slopestyle athletes to qualify for the 2018 PyeongChang winter games in the weeks to come. With an Olympic year comes a lot of hype and tension for athletes. You could sense a drive and level of competition much higher than during normal years.
On Saturday night, riders took to a lit up 22’ halfpipe for the finals, and the night ended with 3 of our very own Mammoth lady athletes atop the podium. Kelly Clark topped it with gold and is headed for her 5th consecutive Olympic games. Rounding out the 1-2-3- was Chloe Kim in 2nd and Maddie Mastro in 3rd, with this being the first winter games for both. By the looks of how these women are riding, it’s going to be another exciting competition.
Following the halfpipe finals, we turned up the fun at the official U.S. Team Nomination Ceremony presented by Visa, where DJ WLDCT was spinning and a booming fireworks show lit up the night sky.
We could not be more stoked and proud to have Mammoth represented in Korea – Go USA!
Big thanks to TJ Dawoud and his Unbound Terrain Park crew for bringing together an amazing halfpipe and slopestyle course for this event, yet again.
