Mammoth Mountain Snowboard Team offers programs for snowboarder’s 6 years and up. We have a wide variety of programs to suite all levels and ages. Whether you’re looking for a part-time program to develop your skills or have aspirations to join a US or National Team Mammoth Mountain Snowboard Team has everything you will need to reach your goals. 

The Mammoth Mountain Snowboard Team has a history of producing some of the best riders in the world. Since the Snowboard Team originated, Team members have regularly moved on to the U.S. and International Teams and competed at top-level international event, including the Olympics and X Games.

The Mammoth Mountain Snowboard Team has produced such names as John Jackson (2xTransworld Rider of the Year), Eric Jackson (Transworld Video Part of the Year winner), Greg Bretz (2x Olympian), Chloe Kim (X Game 2 time Gold medalist and US team member) and Brandon Davis (US Slopestyle Team member and World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle Champion).

Producing top athletes is important, but developing good people and people skills is equally important to us; we teach our athletes the life skills required to participate in society. Education, courage, discipline, accountability, integrity and teamwork are all blended into the Team experience. Success on and off the hill is measured by achievements, not just results.

Our coaching staff is certified through USSA and USASA; they have the knowledge and experience to help any young rider set and reach their goals. The coaches ask our athletes to work hard towards their goals, but make sure there is always time for fun. We want our athletes to enjoy what they are doing so that they want to return tomorrow, next week, and next year. We strive to develop a lifelong passion for snowboarding and the mountains.

Mini Shredders (6–8 yrs)

Mini Shredders (6–8 yrs)

This team is for young riders who are working to develop the  FUNdamentals of snowboarding. Their training includes disciplines in halfpipe, slopestyle, boardercross, slalom, giant slalom and rails. Approximately 50% of training is spent freeriding around the mountain looking for powder, trees and steeps, and riding the groomed runs. Freeriding is important for attaining the mileage necessary to practice and refine the skills the coaches have taught. There's no pressure to compete but this group is  trained so they can compete in Mammoth’s Unbound USASA Series. 
 

Ability Level

Mini Shredders should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Chair 1 down Broadway (blue runs) with a solid basic stance without stopping. All riders must meet the minimum riding ability of the Team and display independence such as being able to buckle their own bindings and meet at spots on runs designated by their coach. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.

Schedule

The Mini Shredders Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting). They will ride from 9AM–3PM on designated training days until the end of April.

Intro (9 yrs & Up)

Intro (9 yrs & Up)

This team is for snowboarders who want to test out a structured coaching program. The purpose is to progress skills in all aspects of snowboarding while having fun and exploring the mountain. Members will train two set weekends per month and one week during the winter break. They will tackle all the terrain Mammoth has to offer, progressing toward parks and pipes. The coaches will set goals, whether to improve all-mountain riding or learn tricks in terrain parks and pipes, and work with the athletes all season long to achieve them. Competition is optional.


Ability Level

Riders should be able to link turns on green and easy blue terrain and want to progress their snowboarding. All riders must meet the minimum riding ability of the Team and display independence, such as being able to buckle their own bindings and meet at spots on runs designated by their coach. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.

Schedule 

The Intro Snowboard Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting).  They will ride from 9AM–3PM on designated training days until the end of April.

Development Team (9–12)

Development Team (9–12)

The Development Team is typically for riders working to develop the FUNdamentals of snowboarding. Training includes the events of halfpipe, slopestyle, boardercross, slalom and giant slalom. About 50% of training time is spent freeriding around the mountain looking for powder, trees and steeps, and ripping the groomed runs. Freeriding is important for attaining the mileage necessary to practice and refine the skills needed to ride the parks and pipes safely.  Their main competitions are the USASA Unbound events at Mammoth and potentially USASA Nationals. The Development Team will be broken into groups relevant to skill level.

Ability Level

The athlete should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Chair 1 down Broadway (blue runs) with a solid basic stance without stopping. They must also be able to ride the groomed runs off Chairs 3 and 5 comfortably and should be attempting fakie turns on flatter terrain. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.

Schedule

The Snowboard Development Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting). They ride from 9AM–3PM weekends and holidays. Beginning in January, team members will have the opportunity to train 2–4PM Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until the program finishes at the end of April.

Junior Team 13 yrs & Up

Junior Team 13 yrs & Up

The Junior Team program is for athletes who want to take their snowboarding to the next level. This program is broken into groups based on skill level and competition aspirations. Riders will be assessed before the training starts and during the season so they are placed in the appropriate group. Athletes may move up in the group to depending on their performance and goals. Refining snowboarding skills, learning complex tricks and developing routines for competition will be the goal of most riders in this program. 

Training 

This group uses video analysis and trains in halfpipe, slopestyle, boardercross, slalom and giant slalom. This team will also use airbags and other special training facilities, such as trampolines, to progress their air awareness. The Junior Team’s competition focus is mainly the local USASA Unbound Series at Mammoth. Competing in this series can qualify athletes for the USASA National Championships at the end of the season. This team may travel to events besides Nationals to compete in any of the above disciplines. Freeriding is still a big part of this group as it is a way of keeping the basic fundamental skills solid. 

Ability Level

The athlete should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Chair 1 down Broadway (blue runs) with a solid basic stance without stopping. They must also be able to ride the groomed runs off Chairs 3 and 5 comfortably and should be attempting fakie turns on flatter terrain. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.

The Junior Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting) and finish at the end of April.  They will ride from 9AM–3PM weekends and holidays. There is also training from 2–4PM Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

ILC/Homeschool Team

ILC/Homeschool Team

This program is for athletes who have a flexible school schedule or are enrolled in the ILC School program in Mammoth. This Team is based 100% around competition and focuses on progressing snowboard skills, learning difficult and complex tricks while developing routines for competition. Competitions range from the Unbound USASA events, Nationals, Revolution Tour and other amateur events. This Team will follow the same schedule as the Elite Team, but is for athletes who may have the aspirations to become an Elite Athlete but still need to develop the skills before being selected. There is no minimum age for this team riders will be paced in this program based on skill, attitude and maturity.

Training

This group uses video equipment extensively and trains in halfpipe and slopestyle. Dry land training is also included with this group and will consist of strength and flexibility workouts at the gym, as well as developing air awareness on trampolines. This team will also use airbags and other special training facilities to develop skills at an increased rate. Avalanche training courses will be offered at an extra cost to those who want to venture into the backcountry and are old enough to be responsible to do so. Summer conditioning and training camps will be used to keep athletes on snow and competing with the best in the world.

Ability Level

The athlete should be able to link smooth consistent turns with a solid basic stance without stopping on all Mammoth’s terrain. They should have solid switch riding skills on all blue terrain and basic switch tricks on beginner features. The athlete should be comfortable in the intermediate park (South Park) and working on tricks over those size features. Halfpipe riders should be comfortable in the 22-ft halfpipe and be airing above the coping consistently. New Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group. 

Schedule

The ILC/Homeschool Team will begin training November (conditions permitting).  They will train from 8:30AM–1PM Wednesday–Sunday until the end of April. Evening trampoline and gym schedules will be announced when the program starts. Summer strength and conditioning is part of this program and will consist of gym and trampoline work. Conditioning schedules will be communicated when on snow training finishes at Mammoth.

Elite Team

Elite Team

The Elite Team is reserved for the highest caliber athletes who have the skill, attitude, maturity and work ethic of an Elite Athlete. This Team is based 100% around competition and focuses on progressing snowboarding skills, learning difficult and complex tricks while developing routines for competition. 

Training

This group uses video equipment extensively and trains in halfpipe and slopestyle. Dry land training is also included with this group and will consist of strength and flexibility work outs at the gym as well as developing air awareness on trampolines. This team will also use airbags and other specialized training facilities to develop skills at an increased rate. Avalanche training courses will be offered at an extra cost to those who want to venture into the backcountry. Summer conditioning and training camps will be used to keep athletes on snow and competing with the best in the world.

Selection for Elite Team

Selections for this group will be at the discretion of program director and head coach and will be based on ability, attitude, commitment and motivation towards competition and training. 

Attendance: The Elite program requires 80% attendance to all training days including dry land sessions.

The Elite Team will begin training November (conditions permitting).  They will train from 8:30AM–1PM Wednesday–Sunday until the end of April. Evening trampoline and gym schedules will be announced when the program starts. Summer strength and conditioning is a part of this program and will consist of gym and trampoline work.
