The Freeride Team provides a skiing alternative to racing. This Team trains in the Mountain's Unbound Parks and Pipes working on various jumps, tricks and maneuvers associated with the events of Skier-X, Big Air, Half Pipe, Slopestyle and Big Mountain Freeskiing. The skiers learn how to use the parks and to jump safely. They work on developing new tricks, ride rails and ski steeps in a low-pressure environment. The Team members push themselves and each other alongside some of the world's best skiers in these events who train at Mammoth.
The Team will ski from 9:30-3:00 weekends & holidays, and from 2-4 pm, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from November 15th to April 6th. An alternative training schedule that excludes Sunday is available and can be arranged with the coach. They will compete in the USASA Unbound Mammoth series and may travel to other events in the region. The skiers may schedule rest periods with the coach as needed.
This program is new for the 2008-09 season. This program is for the individual that needs a less race focused season. Team members will have access to race training and competition, as well as having the flexibility to freeski more often and participate in the Freeride side of snowsports. There is no attendance requirement.
All athletes must be comfortable skiing the entire mountain in all snow conditions.
The J123 Race/Freeski Team will ski from 8:30 to 3:00 weekends and holidays. The program runs from November 8th through April 19th. Athletes may schedule rest periods and breaks as needed with their coaches.
