Hair Jump p. Britta Meyer

Jeremy McGhee is defiant. He defies gravity, physics, and he defies darkness – his own. Jeremy grew up immersed in the world of surfing and snowboarding, discovering his passion for both early on in life. In 2001, at age 25, Jeremy lost the use of his body from the waist down in a motorcycle accident 2 blocks from home.

Instead of letting the darkness of his injury and his inabilities swallow him whole, Jeremy has looked to it to maintain his motivation to do what he loves for the past 14 years. In 2012 that motivation brought him to the top of Bloody Couloir, a 12,544ft backcountry route just south of Mammoth. With his legs following on a sled behind him, it took more than 1,000 pull-ups with a specially-made ascension cord to reach the summit. Then, perched atop his sit-ski, he made his way down with all the natural style of the veteran he is.
