Train
Over the course of 15 years, Train has made its mark on music history with their Grammy-Award-winning song “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” and chart-topping singles “Meet Virginia” and “Calling All Angels.” Since forming in San Francisco in 1994, the multi-platinum selling band has traveled a long, successful and sometimes arduous journey. Following their 2006 release, For Me, It’s You, the band took a three-year hiatus, and in that time, Train has, for all intents and purposes, experienced an epiphany as a whole. Now, with their fifth album, Save Me San Francisco, Train has channeled their early days, revisiting the roots rock sound that has made the band such a tour de force – and, in turn, the band is united stronger than ever before.
The Damon Castillo Band
Combining the talents of Kristian Ducharme (keys), Jennings Jacobsen (drums/vocals), and Larry Kim (saxophone) with Damon Castillo’s prolific songwriting, vocals, and guitar chops, The Damon Castillo Band creates a unique, organic sound. Each member is a master-musician with a diverse past playing jazz, rock, and soul. Their prowess comes through on every note, dynamically punctuating Damon’s soulful lyrics, at times mournful, and often larger than life. The rhythm, melodies and energy of their live performance are utterly intoxicating.
Be sure to catch them at the Mammoth Festival because they’re as excited as can be to play in the mountains.
“We love this festival and we absolutely can’t get enough of the Mammoth crowd. They really know how to let loose and get down so we’re going to pull out all of the stops for them,” says Damon.
Jonathan Kingham
Jonathan Kingham must be doing something right. In his first few years on the scene, he has quickly developed into a seasoned performer while sharing the stage with the likes of Shawn Colvin, Michael McDonald, Doug Stone, Vanessa Carlton, and David Wilcox. Recent tours have found him on the road with such diverse acts as Julio Iglesias Jr, Jonatha Brooke and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. But its not only his live performances that are winning him fans and accolades. He took 1st place honors in the National Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Contest, The Unisong International Song Contest, as well as placing two years in a row in the top five of the John Lennon Song contest. He brought home the 1st Place award in the USA Songwriting Competition in the Folk Category as well as the Overall Grand Prize out of a worldwide field of 33,000 entries. His singing has been featured in films, soap operas and even the WB network’s hit show “ Felicity”. A short lived development deal with Universal Records introduced him to the Nashville and Muscle Shoals writing communities where he was warmly embraced and today he continues to write and record with some of the top writers and players in Nashville.
Ryan Shea Smith
Seattle native, Ryan Shea Smith, known for his masterful songwriting and impressive command of the keyboard, has released two albums - “Guilty and Blue” in 2006, titled after a song his Grandma Nona Piha wrote over 40 years ago and “Stay Awhile” in 2010. Ryan’s paternal grandmother, Dorothy Smith O’Connor taught him to play the piano by ear at the age of five and he went on to win his first songwriting award at age 11. Ryan Shea sheded in the Jazz Masters program at the University of Washington with professor Marc Seales while attending business school. Since then Ryan has gone on to perform a wide range of styles with his musical roots strongly based in jazz and blues.
Mike Moran
A staple on the touring circuit, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Mike Moran has earned comparisons to John Mayer, Dave Matthews and Paul Simon with his catchy acoustic melodies and high-energy live shows. Mike's charismatic stage presence and relentless touring schedule have won the singer fans across the country, propelling songs “Best Be Falling” and “Chicago” to the top of fan charts on Ourstage.com and garnering invitations to open for Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Martin Sexton, Colin Hay, Buckwheat Zydeco, Eddie Money and Derrick Brown. In 2008, Mike was highlighted as a Featured Artist on AOL Music, and was a Grand Final winner on Ourstage.com for his infectious single, “Delicious.” With over 40 original compositions and two full-length albums under his belt, Mike continues to perform over 200 shows a year, earning critical and fan praise and building his reputation as one of the most in-demand artists on the independent music scene.
Michael Tiernan
"So a priest walks into a bar and pulls out a guitar..." Sound like the beginning of a joke? The funny thing is - a few years back, this set-up could've described an evening in Michael Tiernan's life: he was a young seminarian studying at the Vatican, moonlighting as a musician, rising the ire of his superiors by playing gigs in the pubs of the city. Just a year away from being ordained, Tiernan left that calling for a higher one: his life-long love of music. Today, the cancer survivor is one of the West Coast's hottest songwriters and often compared to James Taylor, Jack Johnson, the Counting Crows and Woodie Guthrie. Tiernan also gives back to the community through his participation in local and national cancer-support foundations and through organizing music events to showcase up-and-coming artists in his native San Diego.
The Akoustik 2
Don’t ask what type of music The Akoustik 2 plays. The real question is, “What don’t they play?” Rocking out to heavy metal, hard rock, and even disco, these two guys arrange each song in a way you have never imagined. Lead guitarist, Chris Conales is often compared to Al DeMeola, and Tim Reynolds. And Milo has a voice that can do anything. Milo, from northern Georgia, and Chris from southern California, met by chance while working in Yosemite National Park in 1994. Milo’s southern, back home sound and snappy rhythms mesh with Chris’s fresh Southern California sound perfectly. And an enormous song list reflects their years of live performances, creating an act that is, witty, lively, fun to watch and listen to and includes Ozzy, Guns and Roses and Van Halen, to Michael Jackson, Bee Gees, and everything in between. In all, humorous cover songs, impressive instrumentals, and tight solid originals, put this top notch act above the standard “guitar duo”.
