Kids can experience our new Fireside Story Telling, Teens will love our snowmobile adventures and the whole family can enjoy a tubing session at our new Tube Park. Burton Mountain Festival MammothStop by the snow in front of Main Lodge to experience the Burton Mountain Festival. This three-day event gives everyone a chance to demo and test ride the newest 2012 hardgoods and get information on Burton products.

Try before you buy!  Test ride Burton's latest gear during Burton Mountain Festival and receive a 10% discount off your purchase of any Burton hardgoods from the Main Lodge Sport Shop.

Must be 18 or have a parent-signed liability waiver to demo the gear, and if you're new to freestyle snowboarding you'll love the addition of the all-new Riglet Park! This area located on the snow in front of the Yodler Restaurant will provide a safe environment for children to experience their first moves on a snowboard, whether it's the basics of balance or sliding a box. 

For the more experienced, register for the Burton Pro-Test. This all-ages 4-Star TTR contest invites participants in slopestyle and halfpipe to compete for part of a $7,000 purse and the chance to qualify for the Burton U.S. Open of Snowboarding. Riders will be divided into 3 separate heats. Riders will take 2 runs each - best score counts. Ties will be broken by next highest run. Depending on the course set-up, there will either be 1 judge panel with 3 judges scoring each rider on a scale of 1-100 and the 3 judge scores will be averaged for a total run score; OR 2 judge panels consisting of 2 judges scoring each rider on a scale of 1-100, the judges scores will all be averaged for total run score. The top 12 men (top 5 from each heat and next 2 highest scores overall across either/both heats) and the top 6 women will advance to the finals.

Heat #2 – 30 men (top 5 advance)
(plus the next 2 highest scores overall across either/both heats for a total of 12 men in the finals)

Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center's annual fundraiser is back with informative daytime seminars and an evening presentation by Andrew McLean.  Learn more about avalanche safety and support a great local cause. 


FREE Daytime Avalanche Seminars and Demonstrations will take place at the Main Lodge with Registration beginning at 11:30am in the Mountainside Conference Center.


At 6pm Eagle Lodge opens it doors for the ESAC Evening Kickoff Party with special guest Andrew McLean.  There will be appetizers available while guests mingle with friends and bid on Silent Auction items.  At 7pm Andrew McLean presents 'Polar Extremes' - a show on ski mountaineering in Spitsbergen, Norway and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center : 10am


Lakes Basin Race, scheduled for Sunday January 8th 2012 will be held on the Minaret Mile. 
The race will be changed from a 15/5 km race to the "Minaret Mile Sprint" a 1.5km sprint  open (skating ) race. 
Start time will be at 10:00am, sign-up 8:30-9:30 at the Slope Side Center. Entry fee $ 20.00 for Seniors and Masters and $ 5.00 for Juniors and Kids.

Learn more about Ski Area Safety! Find a member of our on-hill Safety Team in the bright YELLOW jackets, answer the safety question of the day correctly and win prizes! A Day in the Life of a Patroller and Mountain Operations Tour

Spend a day with the men and women in red on Tuesday, January 17th!  Come experience a day in the life of a Mammoth Ski Patroller and learn the different aspects of this exciting and challenging job. Explore the mountain through the eyes of ski patrol, check out the "gun station" where avalanche control is conducted after snow storms, learn about our weather methods and watch a demonstration with our avalanche dogs. NSAA Poster Contest

Our young guests and our local kids are encouraged to enter the NSAA Safety Poster contest! Color your own poster during our Apres with Woolly activity night, pick one up from Starbucks, Quiksilver or McCoy Sports in the Village at Mammoth or download it here! Posters can be dropped off at Main Lodge Hosts Office (1st floor).  Mammoth will pick a local winner after Safety Week ends, the winner will receive a Mammoth Swag Bag and one free tubing session at Woolly's Adventure Summit.  All posters will also be be sent to NSAA for the National judging!

Apres with Woolly

Gather friends and family to join Woolly for Après Ski refreshments, a lesson in on-hill Safety and a fun Safety Coloring Contest! Don't forget to bring your camera to get your picture taken with Woolly! January 14, 15, 20 and 21.  Meet in the Lobby of Mammoth Mountain Inn, Juniper Springs and The Village Lodge at 4pm.

Afternoon Sweep with Patrol

What's a sweep? It's our version of tucking Mammoth in and wishing her a goodnight.  Take the last run of the day with members of our Patrol Team, as they "sweep" the Mountain to make sure no one is left behind, injured or lost. Meet at the top of Facelift Express (Chair 3) or High-Five Express (Chair 5) at 4pm daily to participate.

Purchase any helmet from our mountain Sport Shops (Main, Canyon, Eagle and the Quiksilver Store) January 14-22 and receive a 10% discount when you mention National Safety Awareness Week!

Jan 14, 2012 Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam Qualifiers

Main Park, Mammoth : Registration 9:00am; Competition 10am

The Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is back!

This popular amateur snowboard contest has been going strong for over a decade and presents a fresh "jam style" format for riders. Three park features dug in side-by-side to create a "rail zone" for the riders to hit as many times as they like within their twenty minute set. Riders are judged on the difficulty and style of their tricks and their best two scores make up their final result.

FREE entry and FREE food for all those who compete! Competition is open to Snowboarders only and divisions are 15 and Under, 16plus, Girls and OPEN. There will be plenty of prizes! 

Registration is 9:00am in the Mountainside Conference Center at Main Lodge. If you're under 18 years old, you must bring a parent with you to sign your waiver. Lift Ticket required to compete. Don't forget to wear your helmet!

Burton Mountain Festival MammothWhether it's one last party before the start of the semester or your first long weekend of 2012, Mammoth Mountain is the place to spend your MLK Holiday. This Big Winter Weekend is loaded with events. 


Head to Hyde Lounge when you get to town on Friday night for the official weekend kickoff party featuring special guest DJs and the best VIP table service in town.


On Saturday, the Volcom Peanut Butter & Rail Jam returns to the slopes right in front of Main Lodge. This all-ages snowboard contest is your chance to chase a paycheck with your skills on the snow or just take it all in from the Sundeck. 


Be sure to grab dirt-cheap advance tickets to the Mammoth Concert Series, which brings to town the vintage punk sound of The Soft Pack and the electro-pop of Handsome Furs. The show at Canyon Lodge is Saturday night, and pre-sale tickets are only $10. 


Hyde is once again the place to be after the show, where you'll bump elbows with the beautiful people and hear the best DJs in the west- not to mention they host the official afterparty for the concert.

The Village at Mammoth : 4pm

It's officially time to pray for snow. Get out your retro ski clothes, ritualistically burn ski wax, climb the mountains to do your best snow dance and to give your offerings to the snow gods!

The Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce and The Village at Mammoth are teaming up to do their part to bring on the winter storms in Mammoth!  Come help us "wake up winter" on Sunday, January 15 beginning at 4pm.  Enjoy a live show in the Plaza by "The Tearaways, sacrifice your Skis/Snowboards and there's even a chance to win some prizes!  

Partake in the bonfire fun by creating your own cardboard cut-out of skis or a snowboard.  Decorate your design and bring it on down to the plaza at 5:30pm.  Wooden skis/snowboards are welcome, too!  There will be a prize for the best sacrificial cut-out and a raffle.  We'll see you there!

If you're new to skiing/snowboarding you'll love half price lessons at Mammoth! For this week only, January 22-27 we're offering a sweet discount on full day and 2 day lessons to support Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month!

Our team of talented instructors along with plenty of beginner terrain provides a the perfect environment for anyone to experience their first moves on the snow, whether it's the basics of balance or simply improving your skills.

Recently, the US Forest Service has teamed up with Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month to support winter outdoor activity and encourage children and adults to learn how to ski and/or snowboard by taking lessons from professional instructors. According to Forest Service data, alpine skiing is the second most popular recreation on Forest Service land.

Mammoth Mountain : Registration 7am; Competition at 10

Compete in the first ever Unbound Series Rail Jam at Main Lodge!  Registration begins at 7am in Roma's Room and the competition starts at 10am.  There will be giveaways and a product toss after the event ends!
