  • Mini Shredders - 6 to 8 years old

    sbteam_miniThis team is for the young riders who are working to develop  fundamental snowboarding skills in a fun, “Team” environment. About 50% of their training time will be spent freeriding around the mountain looking for powder, riding trees, steeps, and cruising the groomed runs.  Freeriding is important for attaining mileage necessary to practice and refine the skills the coaches have taught. Their training will include Half Pipe, Slopestyle and they will also be introduced to Boardercross, Slalom, and Giant Slalom. Their competitions are the USASA Unbound events at Mammoth and June Mountain and potentially USASA Nationals.   

    The Mini Shredders Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting) and they will ride from 9:00am to 3:00pm weekends and holidays.  This program will finish late April.

    Minimum skill requirements for the Mini Shredder Team

    Mini Shredders should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Chair 1 down Broadway with a solid basic stance without stopping. They must also be able to ride the groomed runs off Chairs #3 and #5 comfortably and should be attempting fakie turns on flatter terrain. All Riders must meet the minimum riding ability of the Team and display some independence such as being able to do up their own bindings and meet at spots on runs designated by their coach. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.

  • Snowboard Development Team - 9 to 12yr Olds

    sbteam_812The Development Team is for the young riders who are developing fundamental freestyle skills . About 30% of their training time will be spent freeriding around the mountain looking for powder, riding trees, steeps, and cruising the groomed runs.  Freeriding is important for attaining mileage necessary to practice and refine the skills the coaches have taught them and to improve on freestyle skills before taking them to the park. Their training will include Halfpipe, Slopestyle, Boardercross, Slalom, and Giant Slalom. Their main competitions are the USASA Unbound events at Mammoth and June Mountain and potentially USASA Nationals.

    All riders must meet the minimum riding ability of the team.  The Development Team will be broken into groups relevant to skill level and competition aspirations.

    The Snowboard Development Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting).  They will ride from 9:00am to 3:00pm weekends and holidays. Also for those full-time members there will be training starting January on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.  This program will finish late April.

    Minimum skill requirement for the Development Team

    Development Team riders should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Chair 1 down Broadway with a solid basic stance without stopping. They must also be able to ride the groomed runs off Chairs #3 and #5 comfortably and should be attempting fakie turns on flatter terrain. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.


     

  • Snowboard Junior Team - 13yrs & Up

    sbteam_13The Junior Team is broken into groups based on skill level and competition aspirations. Riders will be assessed before team starts and during the season. Athletes may move from group to group depending on their performance and goals. This program is for athletes who want to compete and their training focuses on refining snowboarding skills, learning difficult complex tricks and developing routines for competition. This group trains in Half Pipe, Slopestyle, Boardercross, Slalom, and Giant Slalom. The Junior Team’s competition focus is mainly the local USASA Unbound Series at Mammoth and June mountain.  Competing in this series can qualify athletes for the USASA National Championships at Copper Mtn at the end of the season. This team may travel to events besides Nationals to compete in any of the above disciplines. Freeriding is still a big part of this group as it is a way of keeping the basic fundamental skills solid.

    The Snowboard Junior Team will begin training in November (conditions permitting).  They will ride from 9:00 to 3:00pm weekends and holidays. Fulltime members there will be training from 2- 4pm Monday through Friday, except Tuesday.  This program will finish late April.

    Minimum skill requirement for the Development Team

    Junior Team riders should be able to link smooth consistent turns from the top of Chair 1 down Broadway with a solid basic stance without stopping. They must also be able to ride the groomed runs off Chairs #3 and #5 comfortably and should be attempting fakie turns on flatter terrain. All new Team members must pass a snowboarding ability assessment with a coach prior to receiving their uniform and joining the group.

     

     

  • Junior Elite Team

    The Elite Team is reserved for the highest caliber athletes who have the benefit of a flexible schooling schedule. This team is based 100% around competition and focuses on progressing snowboarding skills, learning complex tricks and developing routines for competition. Competitions range from the Unbound USASA events and Nationals to the Grand Prix Tour, Dew Tour and Revolution Tour. This group uses video equipment extensively and trains in Half Pipe, Slopestyle, and  Boardercross, in addition to three nights of dry land training. This program begins in November and will finish in April, training Wednesday-Sunday 9am-1pm and weekends 9am to 3pm. 


    Selection for Elite Team

    Selections for this group will be made by the Head Coach in November and will be based on ability, attitude, commitment, and motivation towards competition.
