Mammoth Mountain - Smart Tips
What level are you?
Beginner/Novice:
if you have never skied/snowboarded before, or if you know the basics and you're comfortable on easy trails.
Intermediate:
if you are comfortable making turns on most blue runs.
Advanced/Expert:
if you are confident skiing/snowboarding on all terrain including steep and challenging features.
Where are the Ski and Snowboard School Locations?
Main Lodge:
Four miles past the Village at Mammoth on Minaret Rd.
Canyon Lodge:
Located at the top end of Canyon Blvd, or take a six-minute ride to Canyon Lodge on the free Village Gondola.
Eagle Lodge:
Closest lodge to town on Meridian Blvd next to Juniper Springs Resort. Book in advance, as space is limited.
Any tips to help me with the High Altitude?
High altitude means less atmosphere to filter the sun. Be sure to apply sunscreen at least ½ hour prior to hitting the slopes and re-apply every two to three hours.
Drink 10-16 ounces of fluid before hitting the slopes, and continue replenishing throughout the day. Focus on water and carbohydrate-replacing drinks. Modify caffeine and alcohol intake. Don’t forget to give yourself enough time and energy to last throughout the day.
What should I wear?
Mammoth is set at a high elevation where weather conditions vary and the sun can be harmful to your skin and body if you're not prepared. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
Avoid wool and cotton fabrics, as they retain moisture from snow and perspiration. Start with moisture-wicking inner layer and add an insulating middle piece, such as a fleece vest or pullover. Finish off with a wind and water resistant shell layer.
What are the Dates of Operation?

What time do I need to leave to not miss my lesson?
If your lesson starts at...
9am (kids)
Leave for the Ski Area at 7am (it could be snowing!)
Outfit your kids anytime between 8:00 and 8:30 AM and check in to your class by 9:00 AM.
Mammoth Kids at Canyon Lodge and Main Lodge are open from 8:00am daily throughout the season.
9:30am (adults)
Leave for the Ski Area at 7am (it could be snowing!)
We recommend being here when the rental shops open at 8am, or at least an hour before lesson time.
Meet instructor on the snow at 9:30am - They will leade a warm up and will split into groups.
12:45pm
Arrive at the Rental Shop at 11:45am
Meet instructor on the snow at 12:30pm
What do I need to know about Private Lessons?
Private Lessons may have up to five people of your choosing. Please note: for safety reasons, the pace of lesson will be geared towards the slowest person(s). For this reason we do not recommend combining groups with young children (under 6) with adults or big kids.
To book a Private Lesson call 800.MAMMOTH at least one day in advance between 8:00am and 8:00pm. Popular instructors and lesson times book up fast. We recommend calling as soon as your plans are made.
A valid lift ticket is required for all private lessons.
Private lessons are offered in all ability levels for both skiing and snowboarding.
What do I need to know about putting my kids in lessons?
Helmets and eye protection (sunglasses or goggles) are required for all children ages 3-13 enrolled in Mammoth Ski and Snowboard School programs. Helmet rentals are available. For additional helmet safety information visit Lids on Kids. (http://www.lidsonkids.org/)
Lessons start promptly. We recommend arriving at the Rental Shop at least one hour before lesson time in order for your children to be set up with equipment.
All kids need to be at least 3 years old, and must be potty trained – no diapers.
Kids' Lessons are separated into three age groups to accommodate the learning readiness of each child:
"Pioneers" 3 and 4 year-olds (skiing only)
"Explorers" 5 and 7 year-olds (skiing and snowboarding)
"Adventurers" 8 to 13 year-olds (skiing and snowboarding)
